Field of Light - Bruno Munro

In 1992, journeying to Uluru through the Red Desert in Central Australia, Munro had felt a compelling connection to the energy, heat and brightness of the desert landscape. He recorded his thoughts of creating a sculpture on a landscape scale to embody the experience he initially felt. “I saw in my mind a landscape of illuminated stems that, like dormant seeds in a dry desert, quietly wait until darkness falls, under a blazing blanket of southern stars, to bloom with gentle rhythms of light.”

After developing the idea for over a decade, the first outdoor solar powered installation of the Field of Light was created behind his family home in Wiltshire, illuminating the remote desert area. Over the years there have been various installations around the world, including the 4 locations that are currently open to the public.
